R.I.P. 16 Horsepower (1992-2005) Bad news from Denver. Turns out the recently released DVD ‘16 HP’, a summery of 16 Horsepower’s stirring history in videos, interviews, and live performances, is actually an in memoriam. “With some regrets but also with confidence”, the band announced its split-up in a statement on April 7th. The reasons are somewhat vaguely described as “an accumulation of differences, mostly political and spiritual, that separates us today and prevents us from honestly going any further”. There is a silver lining, luckily, as side-projects Lilium and Woven Hand will remain active. No further information is available at this time, but frustrated emails can be sent to 16horsepower@16horsepower.net.

"Kiss me in front of the crowd", horen we in het openingsnummer 'Imagine Me In Front Of You' op het debuut van anderson, nou vooruit dan maar. Die zoen heeft het duo overigens niet te danken aan de fris geschoren wangetjes, maar heeft wel alles te maken met het feit dat we hier erg gecharmeerd zijn van deze eerste langspeler van anderson. Waren we aanvankelijk nog enigszins op het verkeerde been gezet doordat dit tweetal de Grote Prijs van Zuid-Holland categorie singer/songwriter (2004) won, de twee tracks op de VOLKOREN-sampler 'Het Dagelijks Brood' lieten echter al horen dat dit koppel net zo goed drijft op elektronica en dus zeker niet door kan gaan voor een singer/songwriter-duo. In veel van de ons omringende landen zijn er al veel acts die "crossoveren" tussen pop, singer/songwriter en elektronica, vooral in de Scandinavische landen komt dat regelmatig voor, maar hier zijn zulke acts nog tamelijk zeldzaam. De stijl waarin anderson het zoekt verwelkomen we dan ook met open armen. Behalve vorm is vanzelfsprekend vooral inhoud belangrijk, maar ook die wedstrijd wint anderson op alle fronten. De elf liedjes op zijn stuk voor stuk bijzonder de moeite waard en de elektronica is origineel en geen doel op zich. Het meest opvallend is het vrolijke, frisse en fruitige karakter van de liedjes. Ook al is het onderwerp van een aantal teksten niet louter positief, toch slaagt anderson erin in elk nummer de zon te laten schijnen en straalt er daardoor een hoge dosis optimisme van de muziek af. Na een paar draaibeurten scoort 'weradioanderson' dan ook vooral als een album waarop het enthousiast en lekker meezingen is. Ook het geluid van het album is fris. Over de hele linie is het geluid mooi "open", het zal toch niet weer die Martijn Groeneveld zijn? Jawel hoor, het is weer die postbode die achter de knoppen zat, maar ook producer Minco Eggersman weet natuurlijk wel hoe je zo'n plaat moet aanpakken. Zo zijn er op alle fronten verantwoorde keuzes gemaakt en dat is inclusief de vormgeving van de digipack die er bijzonder fraai uitziet en vergezeld gaat van een uiterst mooi vormgegeven "reiskaart van anderson". Kortom, we hebben ons best gedaan, maar geen enkel smetje kunnen vinden. Vandaar dat we dus voor één keer een uitzondering hebben gemaakt op het feit dat we niet in het openbaar zoenen. Wie zich kan vinden in het genre dat bij VOLKOREN tot nu toe de boventoon voert, spoedt zich met een gerust en welgemutst hart richting één der verkooppunten van dit debuut en maakt dit schijfje tot het dagelijks brood.

anderson is VOLKOREN's latest signing and their music can be described as indie-electro-acoustic pop influenced by bands as kings of convenience, rowing on the lakes of kanada, the postal service and spinvis.

in estonia, sweden and finland the disaster with the ferry boat estonia was remembered. it's been ten years ago that the ferry capsized in heavy weather in the baltic sea. more then 850 people died.

the ferry was on its way from tallinn to stockholm when the bow visor was torn by the pressure of the waves. the estonia sank within 45 minutes to a depth of 80 meters. it has been declared as an official sea grave.

the album 'the silja symphony' of at the close of every day tells the story of the estonia and the ship 'the silja symphony'who came to the rescue.
our thoughts are with those who lost their loved ones during that terrible night.

GROOT nieuws bij VOLKOREN! het gezelschap 16 horsepower sluit zich nu ook aan. VOLKOREN zal de platen van dit gezelschap wereldwijd verspreiden: olden zal als eerste release in november verschijnen en wel op 180 grams dubbel vinyl. voor de oren van het volk!

het eerste VOLKOREN festijn is reeds voorbij en het verse brood is weer op. de opkomst was hoog en de vreugde enorm! in 2004 is er weer een winter editie in hedon en een voorjaarseditie is nu in de maak. het zal u wederom bekoren dat festijn van VOLKOREN!

'zalig zijn de armen van geest' zal in november uit komen bij gentlemen music in frankrijk, duitsland, oostenrijk, zwitserland en italië. daarna zal astro hem doen verschijnen in spanje, portugal, mexico, argentinië en chili. begin volgend jaar verschijnt hij met behulp van loose thread recordings in de verenigde staten van amerika zelf!
